Orwellian Sweetness

The scariest book I’ve had the displeasure of reading was not Steven King’s, It, or Michael Chriton’s Andromeda Strain.  It was George Orwell’s 1984.  How scary!  A total surveillance state.  No privacy.  Ultimate coercion.  However, now that we know Big Brother has actually showed up, pocket protector and all, I have to say that I’m not terrified.  On the contrary, I’m completely relieved.  I mean, the weight of the mystery of whether or not we were all being spied upon, or one day would be, is now known to all.  What a present.  A treat!  Sweet bliss.  No longer do we have to wonder.  The mystery has been solved.  We can now move on to other, more mundane tasks, like having to actually admit intellectual defeat and say to all the conspiracy theorists, “You were right”  and “yes, yes.  I know that you bloody well told me.”

You know what I say to that?  At least I’ll never lose my password again.  Ha!
