A graduate of The College of Santa Fe’s Moving Image Arts program, award winning producer Phil Abatecola has worked extensively as a director, producer and writer in Los Angeles, California.
Transitioning away from his long-standing role as multi-camera director on CBS’ Big Brother and Hell’s Kitchen, Mr. Abatecola currently produces for the hit Travel Channel show, Dead Files. His short films The Chase and Over the Wall have played at acclaimed international film festivals including AFI Dallas and The Tel Aviv Sci-Fi Film Festival. His stage directorial debut of H.G. Wells: Time Machine was called “modern, cinematic and intoxicating” by LA2Day.
Believing the internet and distributed entertainment is the future of storytelling, Mr. Abatecola founded Distant Signal LLC in 2013 to focus on personal and unconventional storytelling with high production value on YouTube and other streaming platforms.
His commitment for abandoning the standard model of production, distribution and audience engagement began by releasing his short film Deceit and digital series Milkshake on YouTube, Vimeo, Xbox, Roku and Indieflix.com the same year.
Three more titles will be produced under the Distant Signal banner beginning in 2015, with ThatAcola, Darkness Calls and Downtown.
